Parklets in Graz

Update: Additional parklets in the shape of a wave were installed at Lendplatz during the summer of 2022.

As a result of the 2021 Design Month, parklets made of Accoya have been set up in Graz, inviting you to enjoy a chance to sit and relax without having to go to a cafe.

The project was jointly implemented by Creative Industries Styria, Holzcluster Steiermark, the City of Graz, and ourselves as materials sponsor.

At the start of 2021, eight architects’ practices and four contractors were invited to enter the competition. Several interesting plans were submitted, and four such ideas have now been translated into practice. Three are already enticing passers-by to pause in Graz’ Zinsendorfgasse. The fourth relaxation facility will be ready to try out, after a slight delay, in the autumn.

Sustainability is probably one of the most important issues of our time, and so we’re delighted that increasing numbers of people are looking for sustainable solutions, and also deliberately opting for materials that are sustainable as part of a circular economy.

In this respect, the high-tech wood Accoya – already very popular and widely used – offers unique solutions for outdoor purposes, whether in terms of sustainability, durability or inherent stability.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our most heartfelt thanks to all the participating partners! We believe that the designs and the parklets that have been created offer more than just something to look at, and in our fast-moving society are helping to create new oases in the city where we can while away the time in a relaxing atmosphere.
