Bangkirai is one of the most long-lasting woods in the market and can be used outdoors untreated and without any major preparation.

Application example for Bangkirai

Its Unique Benefits

  • Bangkirai is in durability class 1.
  • It can last outdoors from 20 to 30 years without the slightest amount of care.
  • It is practically knotless and flawless.

Special Technical Features

  • Bangkirai should generally only be processed with stainless steel.
  • Galvanised and other base metals are attacked by the contents and cause unsightly spots on Bangkirai!
  • Bangkirai is “washed out” in the first weathering phase. Construction elements worth protecting must always be protected against the reddish contents, because it is almost impossible to remove. This must be observed carefully for balconies in particular.
  • Bangkirai contains small pinholes. They are not wood flaws, rather a sign of the natural state of the wood. The pinholes are part of Bangkirai and are harmless. They have no affect on the statics and further attack/spreading is not possible.
  • Bangkirai is very dimensionally stable. Nevertheless, with such a heavy and hard wood, a small amount of deformation / twisting and crack formation must be expected.
  • Bangkirai is very difficult to dry. The correct drying process only takes place after building or after installing the boards.

Natural Discolorations

Greying of boards with an occurrence of grey or black colouration (chemical reaction from tannic acid) or water or also splash stains are a characteristic of this type of hardwood, which can occur due to the long sea transport.

After building with Bangkirai, the surface gets a silver-grey patina because the sunlight draws the pigments out of the wood. This process is purely of an optical nature and in no way affects the long service life of Bangkirai.

Avoiding/Limiting Crack Formation

The packages are sealed with wax on the ends at the factory. After sawing the boards, this effect can be achieved with waterproof glue. That way, cracking on the ends is prevented in the long-term. As a result of this, the humidity exchange of the wood is reduced and crack formation reduced. Especially for posts, post caps made of Bangkirai or stainless steel help the most and also look very decorative.
